EUROPEAN CONGRESS ON EVANGELISM
Franklin Graham warmly welcomed Christian leaders to the congress and urged participants
to boldly proclaim God’s truth across Europe—and beyond. There’s a great hunger for truth and lasting hope across Europe. What was once a center for sending out the Gospel to the world is now spiritually parched and dry. Many magnificent cathedrals are now just popular tourist attractions. But there are glimmers of hope for what the Lord will do. “To be in a room with over 1,000 like-minded people tells me that God is not yet finished with Europe,” said one leader from Germany at the gathering.
Will Graham passionately upheld the importance of extending an invitation when preaching the Gospel. “We must never preach in a causal or unthoughtful way but instead be useful tools in the hands of the Holy Spirit, preaching with passion and inviting people to respond in repentance and faith,” he said. Pointing to Matthew 4:19, Will explained, “We are called to be fishers of men. If you never draw in the net, you are never really fishing.” One guest from Italy was deeply touched after Päivi Räsänen, a medical doctor and widely respected member of the Finnish Parliament, shared her story. Päivi passionately defends the lives of unborn children and has clashed with the Supreme Court of Finland for expressing her Christian beliefs online. He told us, “Her story is a powerful reminder of what it means to be a Christian in today’s censorship culture. It also demonstrates [having] an unwavering faith in persecution and punishment for so-called ‘inciting hate speech.’” Another from Romania shared, “Today more than ever, we need courage in a society increasingly hostile to faith. It is time to return to the fundamentals, to what is essential.”
Do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” —2 TIMOTHY 4:5, NKJV
