A Briefing from The Bolick Foundation – October, 2026

IT’S ABOUT TIME!

I began a book over a month ago, one I genuinely enjoyed, and yet, sixty pages remain unread. Time is not the issue. Opportunities for quiet moments come: fifteen minutes here, a half hour there. But too often, I reach for my phone or iPad and start scrolling.

“What are my friends doing?”
“What is the latest news?”
“Did I miss a birthday?”

Before long, I’ve wandered down the familiar “rabbit hole.” One post often leads to another, comments spark new questions, and curiosity pulls me in. What begins as a quick glance turns into an hour, sometimes two, of unplanned consumption. Time quietly slips away.

I considered giving up social media during Lent. When the season arrived, I hesitated; I wasn’t ready. That realization spoke volumes. Scrolling social media venues had become more than a habit; it had become a dependence. It was quietly crowding out what nourishes my soul: card making, Bible study, entertaining, porch conversations, reading, and rest. I recognized the need for a reset, not out of guilt, but out of a desire for something better.

Time is not a commodity; it’s one of the most treasured gifts God has given us. Scripture reminds us that time is a precious and limited gift. We are asked to live thoughtfully and intentionally, seeking God’s wisdom in how we spend our days. As the psalmist writes, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).

So, for me, this is a turning point. A quiet but firm decision to reset my priorities, break old habits, and set intentional boundaries. It will be less about giving something up and more about getting something back. It is choosing to be fully present for the life God has given me.
