Christmas is such a special time of year — a season when joy truly abounds!
Christmas has always been a family affair in our household, and no one loves it more than my sister, Rita. Looking back, I’m pretty sure I stole a bit of her Christmas spirit every year. After all, can you imagine how irritating it must have been to have a little sister named Joy during the holidays? I claimed it all — the “Joy” ornaments (I could decorate an entire tree!), the “Joy to the World” wrapping paper, greeting cards, and even the joyful hymns. It was all mine! (Yes, cue the eye roll.)
Someone recently asked me if the name Joy was ever a burden. Did I feel pressure to live up to it — to be joyful simply because of my name? I like to think that the joy in my heart comes not from my name, but from who I choose to be and the light within. Over time, I’ve learned that joy is not something you feel only when life is easy — it’s something you embody, a reflection of gratitude, love, and faith.
The Christmas season always carries special meaning for me — not just because my name is Joy, but because I’m reminded that true joy is a gift from God. Each Christmas, as “Joy to the World” rings out, I’m reminded that joy isn’t merely a feeling tied to circumstances; it’s the good news of our Savior’s birth.
Even in challenging times, He brings light to darkness, hope to weary hearts, and blessings beyond measure. As we celebrate this sacred season, may the joy of Christ fill your hearts, your homes, and your ministries.
Merry Christmas from The Bolick Foundation!
