One Cru Military® team is getting to know the people in their community in a very creative way—through a local street fair. The Arkansas Cru Military team set up a ministry booth at the Third Thursday Street Fair in Benton, Arkansas, all summer long. “We signed up for the Street Festival to connect to the community of Saline County in Benton,” team member Amber Welch said. “But God meant it for so much more.” The team’s tent was next to the Veteran’s Memorial by the Saline County Courthouse. “That put us in the center of it all,” Amber said. “We were able to engage everyone with high fives and smiles and share our mission.” The Central Arkansas team ministers from the Little Rock Air Force Base down into Saline County. “We have Bible studies for single Airmen on base,” Amber said. The Central Arkansas Team hopes to expand its ministry reach through this fair and several more community events, getting the word out to the community that they can help minister to the military. The team has already seen signs that could lead to more ministry opportunities. “We have seen interest where we weren’t expecting it and seeing where God is leading us for the next steps,” Amber said. “We believe our ministry will grow profoundly throughout the state. We want to see our team grow with a Cru Military affiliate at every church — or at least for the churches to know who Cru Military is and what we can provide — sharing the love of Jesus no matter the cost.” And the events are already drawing people to the healing power of Christ. In a God-ordained meeting, a unique connection was made. “We had the Coast Guard recruiters next to us and made a connection to serve alongside them as they set up in Central Arkansas,” Amber said. “The street fair was just such a Christ-centered atmosphere that left us with joy pumping through our veins!” |
