Whales and Bridal Veils

Happy New Year! As with each coming year, many of us set goals, write resolutions, and embrace the newness of a new year with bold expectations and adventures.
 
Not just this new year, but every year a family of risk-takers and adrenaline-thirsty adventurers surround me. Sometimes I wonder where I fit among these brave hearts, given I am the one who often opts for the more peaceful route. On a family trip to Hawaii, I wondered if I would be pressured to be adventurous. I was more excited to see a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree than hiking a volcanic crater or watching the perfect sunset versus challenging myself to surf.
 
Then came the fateful day before our departure home, a suggestion that left my heart racing and my imagination soaring: a helicopter ride above the sea and across the islands! The idea of hovering in the sky in a “chopper” sent shivers down my spine. As it became closer to our flight time, I found the courage (and a bit of gut-wrenching internal pressure) to witness this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
 

As we ascended, I was surrounded by my family’s infectious zeal and the breathtaking views of God’s creation. We saw glimpses of whales breaching the waters, cascading Bridal Veil Waterfalls, and beautiful rock formations stretching into the horizon. It was an incredible adventure.

The Bible gives us countless examples of incredible adventures and stepping into the unknown. From Moses parting the Red Sea to Esther embracing her calling, each has a foundation of faith and the assurance of God’s promise. May you be blessed to live boldly and abundantly in 2025!
