SHARKS IN THE WATER!

Whether the threat is real or imagined, the feeling of fear can overcome all thoughts and emotions. The unknown can be particularly daunting. Recently, two of my grandchildren were facing the fear of swimming lessons.

“Will there be sharks in the water?” asked the quizzical 4-year-old. “Will I have to hold my breath for twenty seconds or twenty minutes,” asked the 5-year-old after a sleepless night. What seemed routine to their parents created fear and anxiety for them. The fear of something new had entered their fragile little hearts and their imaginations.

Fear is real regardless of size. Life is full of trials and periods of testing; it is a part of our faith journey. In moments of fear, whether they stem from something as simple as swimming lessons or something more profound, it’s essential to find a source of comfort and strength. Trust remains a must. Trust can be found in faith, in the belief that we are not alone and that there is a greater plan at work. Trusting in something greater than ourselves can provide solace and courage in the face of fear. Leaning on our faith and trusting in God’s protection and guidance can help ease anxieties and build resilience. God reminds us that He is bigger than our fears…a powerful anchor in turbulent times.
