CHURCH PLANTING: Showing the Gospel
In Tamboril, a gas explosion destroyed seven homes in a community called Damnificados—meaning “the displaced ones”. The community was originally founded 18 years ago when families displaced by landslides relocated.
When tragedy struck, Pastor Juan Carlos and local network leaders provided food, worked alongside the community, and helped families begin cleaning and rebuilding. Last week, a team from Kingsway Church in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, joined them, pouring foundations for two of the seven homes. On the second day, the families themselves picked up tools and joined the work.
The church showed up—and the community became part of the rebuilding.
That same heart for serving is opening doors for the Gospel across our church-planting networks. In Nigua, months of sharing the Gospel with workers at a local cigar factory became a missional initiative serving workers and their families. Five workers were baptized in August, and a new church launched in September.
In Batey 9, a Haitian community near Barahona, one father of three came to Christ after months of home visits, discipleship, and practical care. After accepting Christ, he invited his pastor into his home and handed over every idol he owned. Together, they burned them—a cultural expression of making a clean break with the past.
This is what it looks like to be a living example of the Gospel at work.
This year, 96 short-term teams have served in more than 40 church-planting communities, and 318 churches have now been planted toward our goal of 1,000.
