THE SWEET TRAIL OF SUMMER
Summertime is a magical season in a child’s life. With school out and homework happily on pause, each day holds the promise of new adventures, carefree moments, and memories waiting to be made.
We were recently blessed to have three of our grandchildren (ages 8, 6 and 3) stay with us for a few days. Every day, our home was buzzing with excitement and boundless energy. And as anyone who has ever hosted little ones knows, they also left behind…trails. Tiny trails of life, such as pajamas abandoned on the floor, crumbs and sticky fingers following dinner, and multiple footprints, all evidence of their presence, were scattered around our home.
As our time together drew to a close, a sweet shift happened in my heart. The trail of disorder was truly a sign of love and life. PJs on the floor were a reminder of a delightful bedtime discussion; crumbs and sticky fingers were signs of an animated breakfast conversation. The trail became one of warmth and connection. It became a safe space for these kids just to be kids, and for me, it became my happy place!
Everywhere Jesus went, He left a trail – one overflowing with compassion, healing, grace, and endless hope. Let us step out in faith today with open eyes and grateful hearts. And may our trails, just like His (and our precious grandchildren’s), overflow with goodness. What a beautiful gift!
