Before the war, Ahmad lived a steady life in Homs, Syria. As an English teacher from an Alawite family, he found a sense of purpose in his daily routine. When conflict escalated—especially following the fall of the regime at the end of 2024—his home was attacked, forcing Ahmad to flee to Tartous. Armed groups began raiding homes, bombings became frequent, and kidnappings increased.
Ahmad and his relatives fled once again, eventually crossing into southern Lebanon through a dangerous route. Though he was a teacher, Ahmad took on physically demanding jobs to provide for his family.
But in March 2026, war broke out in southern Lebanon, and once again, everything changed. “Everything stopped again—no work, no income, no certainty,” he shared.
In the midst of this uncertainty, we met Ahmad through an assessment visit at Heart for Lebanon and invited him to our Hope Evangelical Church in Ghazieh. The family was welcomed and provided with safe shelter. “For the first time in a long time, we felt safe again. Not just physically, but emotionally. We felt seen and cared for.”
As Ahmad began attending church gatherings despite the ongoing war, he slowly became part of a supportive and loving community. He began to reflect more deeply on faith and his understanding of God. One verse, in particular, impacted him deeply: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).
“This verse changed everything for me,” Ahmad said. “It helped me understand who Jesus is and how I can have a direct relationship with God. That gave me peace.”
As his faith grew, so did his desire to serve. Ahmad began volunteering with Heart for Lebanon, helping distribute aid and support others walking through similar hardship.
“Starting over more than once was the hardest part of my journey. But having people stand with us made all the difference. I’m grateful that all the trouble that eventually lead me to reconciling with God.”
