You are not a burden

As we settle into this Sunday evening, I want to speak to something that weighs heavily on many hearts, even if it’s rarely said out loud.

The fear of being a burden.

Scripture offers us a very different picture of how God sees us:

“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home.”
                                                                     — Psalm 68:5–6 (ESV)

And Jesus reminds us:
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
                                                                     — Luke 12:6–7 (ESV)

At CURE, we see how powerful this truth is when it finally breaks through.

I think of a mother who arrived at one of our hospitals carrying years of quiet shame. Her child’s disability had convinced her that she had failed somehow, that her family was now a burden on others. She spoke softly and avoided eye contact because, like so many other times in her life, she expected to be dismissed.

Instead, she was welcomed. At our hospital her child was treated with care and dignity. And as she listened to the truth of who God is, something shifted. She began to see that her child was not a problem to be managed, but a person deeply known and loved by God.

That same truth is for us too.

Your worth is not measured by how easy your life is, how strong you feel, or how useful you appear to be. God’s care is attentive and personal. He does not see you as an inconvenience or a burden.

He sees you as perfectly His.

As you enter the week ahead, may this truth settle gently into your heart: You are known, you are valued, and you are held with care.

With you this week,
