A Briefing from The Bolick Foundation – July 2025

THE MAGIC OF SEVEN
In our family, the number seven holds a special kind of magic. It marks a rite of passage, a long-awaited milestone. When a grandchild turns seven, they are welcomed into a cherished tradition—an adventure with “Belles” and “Papa.” Honestly, we’re never quite sure who looks forward to it more—us or the child!

This spring, our only grandson, Thomas, celebrated his seventh birthday, and that meant it was his turn for the adventure of a lifetime. We planned an exciting trip to New York City over Spring Break. The journey began on Amtrak and unfolded into a whirlwind of sightseeing and joy. We explored the Statue of Liberty, stood in awe at the Intrepid Museum, took in the views from Top of the Rock, got creative at the LEGO store, and were mesmerized by the magic of The Lion King on Broadway. It was everything we had hoped for.

Thomas, our quiet and thoughtful young man, took it all in with gentle smiles and impeccable manners. Though he rarely said much, we kept hoping—praying—that he was enjoying the experience as much as we were.

Then came the moment of truth. As we pulled into Union Station on our return, there she was—his mom, waiting with open arms. Thomas ran to her, wrapped her in a huge hug, and then, to our surprise and delight, he burst with stories. He rattled off 17 things he had done, each detail more animated than the last. He could not contain his joy!

Papa and I caught each other’s eyes, smiled, and exchanged a high five. We did it!

That reunion reminded me of a deeper truth: just as a child finds comfort in the arms of a loving parent, we find lasting comfort in our Heavenly Father. His presence, like a mother’s embrace, brings peace. He is always there—faithful and steady—ready to hear our stories, catch our tears, and celebrate our joys. By trusting in His love, serving others, practicing forgiveness, remembering His promises, and resting in His care, we find true and lasting strength.

And in priceless moments like these—with our grandson’s smile, his stories, and his joy—we are reminded of God’s faithfulness. His love is the greatest adventure of all.
