Blessings for Spain

The NT translation project among the Deaf in Spain has blessed both Spanish Sign Language (LSE) and Catalan Sign Language (LSC) communities.

From the beginning of this project, SIL has looked for ways to get Scripture to the people in a form that they will and can use. Early on, SIL considered using written forms such as
SignWriting, then DVDs became popular. Next was Scripture on USB sticks, and now the
primary focus is social media. All published Scripture can be found on a website,
www.BibliaLSELSC.org, and a phone app. Scripture is distributed weekly on social media through platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and TikTok. There are several
chat groups that bring together people from all over Spain to discuss the Bible and
religious vocabulary. All Scripture is available for online viewing and freely
downloadable. The videos are easily found on YouTube and Google and other popular
search engines. While Scripture is also available on international Scripture sites such as
Deaf Bible, the team has worked hard to make local web pages and apps that fit the
language and Scripture needs of the local community. SIL continues to dialogue with
the Centre de Pastoral Litúrgica to include the weekly or daily Scripture readings in
their phone app. This implies a major change to their product, since they need to adjust
the software to include video. While the team had hoped it would be functioning by the
liturgical calendar year beginning in December 2024, it has been postponed to
December 2025. SIL continues to explore other options for the Evangelical community
that would provide a series of daily readings on their phone, such as having the life of Christ or practical teaching in 365 days.

SIL’s team remains active, promoting Deaf Scripture translation in Europe and globally
through their contacts with the European Deaf Christian Alliance and the World Deaf
Assemblies of God, and most recently, with Joni and Friends ministry in Spain. The team
is part of the coordinating committee for the European Deaf Christian Bible Translation
conference scheduled for November 2025 in France.

“Thank you” Mr. Bolick, the Board, the Foundation, and Mrs. Cline for your involvement
in this project as we work together to foster spiritual growth and increased knowledge
of God’s Word. This partnership has allowed the team to help penetrate the hearts and
daily lives of the Deaf communities in Spain and around the world.

SIL is a faithful partner of The Bolick Foundation.
