Building friendships Lena* is using her skills as a seamstress to share the gospel in an unreached region of the North Caucasus. Her work provides opportunities to get to know people and build relationships. Recently, Lena met a local woman named Saida*. “Once, Saida called and asked me to hem some trousers. I agreed to do it but warned her that I couldn’t do it quickly. Her trousers would be ready in one week,” said Lena. Saida agreed and brought five pairs of trousers to Lena. “Right after Saida came, I began to work. “I hemmed one pair and then another. I was able to finish all the work in one day,” continued Lena. Saida was very surprised to get the clothes back the same day. She invited Lena to drink coffee at her home and it marked the beginning of their friendship. Since then, Saida often invites Lena over. “I began to visit Saida each morning to have a cup of coffee together. I realised that this time should be spent usefully,” shared Lena. She decided to take her Bible along each visit. “I explained to Saida that it is important to start each new day with reading the Bible and offered to read the Bible together,” said Lena. Saida was interested and joyfully agreed to read Scripture together. “We read Psalms and I explain what is written in them,” Lena said. In addition to reading the Bible with Saida, Lena also prays for her new friend and invites her to church. Saida attended an Easter service last year and continues to be open to the gospel. *name changed |
