Moving Powerfully in Lebanon

God is moving powerfully through your partnership with us. I am really encouraged to share this update on Lebanon, including recent developments in Tyre, South Lebanon.

Lebanon
Since October 2019, Lebanon has been in freefall—one crisis after another. The economy continues to crash. To give you a sense of the scale, the largest single bill available—100,000 Lebanese Lira—used to be worth $66; today, it’s worth $1.11.

For years, Hezbollah has increasingly tightened its grip, controlling Lebanon’s institutions and economic resources. Then, in 2024, war struck again. Lebanon has endured tens of thousands of airstrikes, devastating homes, villages, and families. In just three months:
• Almost 4,000 people lost their lives.
• More than 1 million people were displaced.
• Families lost homes, jobs, and loved ones.
• Many have been left with severe injuries, disabilities, and severe trauma, including many children.

It was a time of immense suffering—but also of unexpected change. Most of Hezbollah’s weapons were wiped out during the conflict, and its hold on Lebanon appears broken. Within weeks of the ceasefire, the country elected a new president (after over 2 years of vacancy!) and a new prime minister, who, significantly, is also the president of the International Court of Justice. Many see this as a sign of Hezbollah’s diminished influence.

How Has Horizons International Ministry Been Affected?
Amidst all of this, we have seen how God has used Horizons and believers across Lebanon to bless those suffering, with the life-giving message of the gospel.

South Lebanon Ministry and Tyre Church
The war forced our South Lebanon Ministry Center team and the Tyre Church to flee their homes and abandon their ministry center and church building. The ministry center—right next to four ten-story buildings that were bombed—suffered severe damage. The glass was blown out, and we still don’t know if the structure is sound or repairable. We have now moved everything out and are searching for a new location.

Displaced Staff
With their homes destroyed or damaged, our staff and the congregation temporarily relocated to Beirut, gathering at our newly opened MEC Café. What could have been seen as a setback became a blessing—bringing them closer to our Beirut team and strengthening relationships. Now that the war has ended, they have returned to the South, but many are living in overcrowded conditions with friends and family.

Reaching Thousands with The Gospel
Despite the turmoil, God granted us unique opportunities to share the Gospel. Over 11,000 people—many of them displaced, grieving, and uncertain of the future—received both humanitarian and spiritual through our ministry.

Our ministry centers, school for refugees, and network of partner churches became places of refuge. Hundreds of families arrived with little more than the clothes on their backs, yet they found more than food and shelter —they encountered the love of Christ. As we worked to meet their urgent physical needs, we also ministered to the broken-hearted and traumatized, praying with many and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

From a human perspective, the war brought disruption and upheaval. But we witnessed something deeper—a God-ordained moment to bring the gospel to thousands!

Horizons International is a faithful partner of The Bolick Foundation.
