Vision Beyond Borders has sent 185,000 Reina Valera Bibles and 90,000 study Bibles to Colombia in the last 3 years and is in the process of sending a container of more than 37,000 Bibles.
And although there is no law that opposes the Gospel, in fact there is a law called “Freedom of worship” but the Left attacks Christians indirectly through guerrillas, so for our contacts who distribute Bibles in indigenous areas of the Colombian Pacific, the Colombian Caribbean, northern Colombian Pacific, the plains and other rural areas, they risk their lives when they travel on these roads. The guerrilla, which is supported by the president although not openly, has taken cell phones from pastors and threatens them not to leave their territories and if they do leave, they cannot come back. They do not do this with an official law but with threats at a regional level. The guerrilla tries to prevent the Word from being preached.
One testimony, for example, is when one of our contacts was in Silvia, a Colombian municipality located in the department of Cauca, where the guerrilla had set up 3 checkpoints before our contact arrived at the place where he would distribute the Bibles. At each checkpoint, the guerrilla asked him what he had in the back of the truck and he answered that he had bread, because if not, he ran the risk of having everything taken from him and his life in the hands of the guerrilla. At the last checkpoint, they asked him the same thing and he answered that he had bread. By the grace of God, the driver of the van got out to go to the bathroom in a bakery, so when the guerrilla was about to search the van, one of them shouted: “Hey, the driver is in the bakery, don’t search the van.” God took control of this moment and to God they gave glory.
The Church more than ever has been in prayer and intercession to prevent Colombia from continuing to be governed by those on the Left. It has also been taking the Word to all possible places, even risking their lives when facing the guerrillas. That is why the Bibles that arrived in Colombia through Vision Beyond Borders arrived at the precise moment of transition, which is when the country needs it most. This is one more reason why the government is against Christianity. Many pastors have died at the hands of the guerrillas, which as I mentioned before, is led by the same government but in a secret manner. This is more noticeable in the rural areas where our contacts have been distributing the Bibles since in the city this oppression is not very noticeable.
However, the Church knows that they need God’s help to be able to remove this government since it can use corruption to stay in power.
